IELTS Test : Academic Module
Hey guys! Anybody needs an English language requirement for tertiary education or perhaps for work? Here are a few things and the questions they asked me during my IELTS exam in British council:
Speaking Test
- conducted in British Council
- 11-14 mins only
- mine was conducted one week before my Reading, Writing and Listening Test
Section 1 : They ask personal questions and they are usually a short response and very direct,
- What are you doing now? Are you currently working or at college?
- What do you like about college life?
- Do you spend more time with your friends in the weekends or weekdays?
- In your opinion, does college or work offer more time with friends? Why?
- What is the meaning of your name?
- How did your parents come up with the name they had given you?
- What name are you planning to give your children? Why?
- Is it important to have a name with a meaning? Give reasons.
Section 2: They give a topic. You have 1 minute to write down key points. Then you need to speak continuously for 1-2 minutes.
Question: Describe a film based on a real person or real event. Explain what you learned from it.
Section 3: Questions related to Section 2
- How do producers decide on the theme of a film?
- What is your opinion about people who are easily influenced by action movies?
- Is it necessary to filter movies based on age group?
- In film production, what sources are used to create a film based on historical events?
- Compare ways to produce more reliable sources in order to obtain information of the past.
- Story lines are changed in films today in order to make the film more interesting. Do you agree with this?
- It it necessary to change story lines of historical movies? Why?
- Is it important for every movie to have a lesson? How?
- Are movies a good way to convey a message to people? Why?
Writing Test
- 1 hour
- 2 essay questions : 1st task within 150 words, the 2nd task within 250 words
- My essay question for -
- Task 1: Compare average maximum and minimum temperature in Tokyo, Japan and Sydney Australia
- Task 2: In the society today, there are many people from different cultures and ethnic group. Is this a positive or negative development? Explain your point of view.
Reading Test
- 1 hour
- 3 long passages given
- 40 questions with short answers / Multiple choice question based on passage
- Need to skim through text quickly because there is not enough time to read every single line of the passages
- Practice more on this before the test and time yourself !
Listening Test
- 30 minutes + 10 minutes to transfer answer to answer sheet
- Recording will NOT be repeated so concentrate and listen attentively
My reading, writing and listening test was conducted in Corus Hotel while my speaking test was in British Council at the opposite building.
Results will be released 13 days after exam date.
