20 Reasons Why Blogs Are Better Than FB or Twitter

My eyes caught a horrifying sight as I was sitting in Chillis KLCC waiting for our delicacy of the day to be served - in other words "having lunch".

In a table right across mine sat 4 teenagers but the first thing i saw when i glanced at their table were 4 black heads covered in hair, more like zombies looking at the ground.

A naive person would have been easily deceived by looking at the ground as well and try to find the interesting thing they were all gazing at- perhaps a portait of One Direction *winks

Well guess what ? It wasn't a sexy portrait of Zayn Malik. They were looking down at their phones -.- *urgh disappointment- no 6 pack

Then I looked at them again and since I had nothing much to do, I just waited to see how long they would stay like that. I waited and waited but none of them moved an inch. Finally the food came yaay! While eating, i glanced again. I was still counting. Ok one of them placed the phone down but the other 3 continued to gaze zombie-ly down at their phone. Then their food arrived and GUESS WHAT?!!!!!!!!!!!!

They still held their phone with the left hand and ate using the right hand. The only words on my mind " Do you have superglue stuck on your hand?" because I couldn't believe my eyes. They did not speak to each other AT ALL. Then they ate blindly with eyes fixed on the screen. As soon as their food finished they just got up and left. I was ultimately surprised that i came up with my own conclusion : maybe those teenagers just had a fight or something but then they wouldn't be having lunch together right? So what do you think?

The first question here : What is the cause of all this? Why do people behave like this? Why do many teens seem lifeless, not only teens but children and adults as well. Is it because of FB and twitter? or is it Apple's fault for producing so many high-tech gadgets? Whose fault is it? Its normal for us to blame other people isn't it. If you ask me, its nobody's fault. If it happens to you, you can only blame yourself. The advanced tech is created for making life easier but we are the ones who let it dominate our lives.

Its terrible. I hate it. I can't imagine how people like that face their everyday life. Is it really enjoyable to just go online, see what's new, stalk, chat, run out of topics, get offended, feel miserable, read on celebrity's sick cat, see who has more virtual friends, and the list continues...you guys might know even more than me.

Being updated with current news is a good thing but spending your entire life being online is the total opposite. You may say to yourself right now " Oh I don't go online as often as those teens up there." But let me ask you 1 question " Have you ever felt like you couldn't close your FB or Twitter tab? Have you ever felt reluctant to log off? Have you ever tried to find more reasons to stay online? Have you run out of things to do online then start clicking random things and end up spending the entire day at the same place, in the same room (until your chair gets extremely hot) ;) ? If your answer is yes, then you are starting to get addicted. And its just the beginning .........*stars falling as I am flipping the page*

So why do i think blogs are better than FB or Twitter?

  • You get to enhance your writing skills.
  • Learn more vocabulary and widen general knowledge as you google instantly when you need more info on blog topic.
  • Makes you more alert of your daily, weekly, monthly activities because you need to write it in your blog.
  • Makes you more confident when you realise that people want to know what you think.
  • People choose to click on your blog link and not forced to read or see it on their notifications.
  • Focus more on your life instead of others.
  • Learn things from other people- diff people are good in diff things so you learn a lot when you read people's blog.
  • Spend less time online- you post your article and leave as there is no reason to stay too long.
  • Occupy your time with something beneficial.
  • There are awards for good bloggers-at least you see something positive after going online for hours.
  • Earn money through advertisements.
  • Join blog conferences, meet influential people in the industry, get invited to blog events.
  • Able to express your thoughts privately.
  • People worldwide are able to read your articles on Google, so you may be discovered for your talent.
  • Makes you more creative as you find topics and ways to attract and keep your readers.
  • A fun hobby.
  • You get people emailing you personally to seek advice, opinions or to simply compliment you.
  • Artistic people can create their own blog design.
  • Share useful information with other people.
  • Generally makes you more happier than just updating statuses on FB/Twitter as you are able to write an entire story and even include pictures on special events in your life.
  • You have control of you're own page, not like FB when they can change your layout whenever they want. Its so annoying - i just got a notification today that my FB is going to be changed to Timeline by 5 Aug. Its our page for goodness sake, they should give us the privilege to decide how we want it to be. I'm glad to say that blogs don't change your blogskin/ design for fun.

Before i end this blog post, I have to say that it also depends on the individual. If you are more of a quick, eat-breakfast-in-the-car kind of person then you would definitely opt for FB/ Twitter to save your time. However for more meticulous people or those who prefer to update on their lives/ spend time online once or twice a week, then blogs are more suitable for you. I personally think that people who are more active on blogs than social network are more private people. They don't want people in general to know everything going on in their lives but they choose certain events, interesting stories to share, fun facts, and some bloggers i know do not even write anything personal at ALL. They focus on their blog theme like food, fashion, celebrity gossip, etc.

Yes, i admit that social network in general is entertainment- you get to win prizes, join competitions, read interesting articles, updated with current news but let's put a line to the limit. Do you really want to end your life like the teens i mentioned above?

For Internet addicts who are trying to go on a rehab, try blogging as an alternative! See the difference in 3 months.

In the end it depends on you. If you are able to manage your time wisely, have self-discipline on how long and how frequent you should be spending time in the virtual world, then congratulations! People like you can have it all yet still be present in the real world. If one day, a global shutdown occurs and the entire nation is deprived of Internet access, you should be able to be contented with your life. Do bear this in mind and you shall be doing fabulous. Have fun deciding! :)
